....Waitaminute, it's 2006? How did *that* happen? ... I turn 20 this year. Wowza. But not for over 350-ish days, so bleh. Er, anyway, I have heard that apparently the first post of a new year is supposed to be a retrospective, however detailed, of the past year. I'm somewhat of a lemming, plus it's something to ramble about, so off I go. Er... 2005. Despite a lot of things happening, and I mean a LOT, it was a pretty ordinary year, especially after the ickiness that was 2004. Ew. I mean, there were big lows (February was a whole lot of not-fun, that before-college thing was terrifying), but there were big highlights too (graduating high school after a really enjoyable year, starting university and having a blast). All in all, a pretty regular year, just more dramatic than usual. I could, I suppose, dwell on things, write a month-by-moth thingy, go into detail about certain events, but where does that get me? :P Bleck. I'll just stick with this random and utterly hilarious (to me, anyway) thought: How many people have their first colonoscopy and graduate from high school in the same year? (I know, I have a twisted sense of humour. I'm allowed! ;P)
In other news, winter term starts tomorrow. It's not really different from fall term except some of the class locations have changed, I have one new prof (Hmmmmm...a little apprehensive about this), and *micro* economics is over and I'm now taking *macro* economics. Ooooo, and there's no frosh week. *eyeroll* It would be fun to have a week with all sorts of crazy activities (woot meeting boys!) and no classes again, but no such luck. Let's all hope I can find my new econ class tomorrow. :P
Christmas break was uneventful, then REALLY eventful. At first I hung around, had too many late-night chats on MSN, slept on my floor a few times, played some video games, turned 19 (surprisingly uneventful. We picked out a Christmas tree, went out to dinner, I went to the liquor store and bought Arbor Mist, came home and was getting ready to cuddle up with my brother's PS2 when a friend from high school I'd lost touch with came by with a birthday card and a christmas card. We ended up talking for hours in my room, coming downstairs for cake and wine, which made me lightheaded and not quite politically correct, then chatting some more until her dad picked her up. No bars yet! :P), going to a bar for trivia with my dad and my dad's friend (which doesn't count), yearning for eye candy (I found a cutie with dreadlocks, but that's it), doing minimal amounts of visiting (Lins, Amy), and generally being a filthy layabout.
During Christmas I was obviously more busy, what with Christmas Day being like an insane marathon in my family. We drove up to the city on Boxing Day to pick my uncle up from the airport, then picking up my darling Sarah on the way back (she stayed with me until today, when we drove back). The next day there was visiting with my cousins Jenn and Steph and their dad Cyril. The next day, there was visiting with Dad's side of the family after a dinner with Mom's side. There was visiting with Erin, Justin, Ana, Mrs. Arnett, Rebecca (Bailey's and milk is my new drink of choice. Becs was all "Oh, right, Meg, you're 19 now! Let me mix you a drink!" Me: "Okay..... *sips* *dies* Mmmmmm. It's like chocolate milk!" Becs: "With a buzz!" However, it is not meant to be drunk with apple juice soon afterward. :P), and Sarah C. and the whole crowd at her party (Parties are the BEST way to socialize with a lot of people at once; next time I am home for an extended period of time I'll just have a big party and invite everybody. That makes it so much easier. And more fun, of course! The bag game rocks.) There was also much making of videos on my new digital camera, including some hilarious late-night ones we made the night Sare drank too much coffee).
And needless to say, there was Anne (not you, <lj user= radioactivefairy>! You will henceforth be referred to as "Meg's wifey", or Annie-grannie, or potentially Annie-pants.). I think she may have scarred Justin for life (but in a good way). I have this game called "Dirty Minds" which was MADE for the woman, I swear. She got a HUGE kick out of it. It was hilarious. The best part was when she let her impressionable twelve year old son read these horrendously double entendre-esque filthy clues. He loved it, but it was SO wrong hearing him read them. :P
New Years itself was spent first having dinner at Anne's, then going over to Erin's for a party. :) We ate too many yummy foods, finished off my wine (which was gross by this point), played more Dirty Minds, played around with streamers, balloons, noisemakers, and sparklers, counted down, made a lot of noise, hugged, cheek!smooched (first time I've kissed someone other than my parents at New Year's; my goal for next year is a lip!smooch with a boy...hee hee!), then went down to the Milton horse (a local landmark in Yarmouth; a statue of a horse in the middle of an intersection which has remarkably sculpted genitalia, I must say) and tried to get sparklers going while people drove past (the elderly glared, the party-goers and people we knew honked, and a police car nearly stopped in front of us. The policeman gave us quite the glare, after which we went back inside since it was freezing and nobody wants to be accused of vandalism less than an hour into the new year). Soon afterward, we headed back home. I had a cold and needed my rest. :( It was a lovely evening that will have to be partially recreated in the future (I say "partially" because it would be weird to do exactly the same things over again).
I loooooooooved having Sare come to visit, and I hope we can do it again soon. My family were all enamoured of the girl. ;) I think my mom wants Sare as a daughter, and as Matt put it, "Your grandmother likes her more than you!" (it's striking how well Grandmere remembers Sarah, which means she made quite an impression, the darling). First prize, Sare, especially for tolerating my bitchiness near the end there. If I had a medal, you'd get it. :D
Now that I've finished buttering Sare up, it's time for sleep. :P Good night and happy new year all; may your year be whatever you want it to be.
Kisses,
Meg
